Dachstein-Crossing Starting point: Obertraun, destination: Gosausee. |
Take the Dachstein railway over three stages as far as the Gjaidalm. From there, follow a path for two or three hours beyond the tree border through dwarf pines as far as the Simony lodge.
Continue over the Hallstatt glacier as far as the Seetaler lodge (takes three hours). Take the steep east ridge - rope safety gear is used - to reach the summit of the Dachstein in approximately one to two hours more.
The alternative route: If you choose the direct ascent via the ravine, you save yourself the diversion across the Seetaler lodge. This saves you one hour in total.
|
Descent is via the west ridge and the Gosau glacier as far as the Adamek lodge and continues to the Gosausee. The entire walking time amounts to approximately 13 hours.
In three stages, including two nights’ accommodation in the Simony and Adamek lodges, the Dachstein crossing is a fantastic tour of a demanding yet manageable nature.
ATTENTION! This high-alpine tour requires sure-footedness and experience!
The good post office-operated buses from the Lake Gosausee to the Dachstein cable car enable you to reach your starting point both quickly and easily.
