Dachstein Loop Great Walk

RucksackDachstein Loop Great Walk

Walking time per stage, Are you a hiker who wishes to enjoy several days’ tranquillity and beauty of the Salzapprox. 2 to 3 hours kammergut’s mountain scenery and yet get to know the region’s major attractions “on the side”?

In that case, we recommend the Dachstein circular path. This is an eightday hike with a daily hiking time of between four and five hours. The path starts at the Gosaukamm railway in Gosau.

The hike takes you up to the Austria lodge, continues to the Stoderzinken, then takes you to the Ödensee via the Viehbergalm. The path then takes you through the Koppental to Obertraun. Once there, you need to decide which path you follow to Hallstatt: either the athletic variant via the Wiesberghaus or via the Dachstein cave path where you can visit the ice cave and/or the Mammut cave.

It then takes you back down to Obertraun and along the east shore path to Hallstatt station. There a ship waits to take you to the historic town on the shores of Lake Hallstatt.

Once you have completed the tour, follow the Soleweg as far as Bad
Goisern for refreshment. You will need to keep your strength up for the next day, when you will be walking up to the Goisern lodge and continue via the Schartenalm in order to return to Gosau.
