World Heritage Trail from Gosau to Hallstatt |
From Gosau To Hallstatt
World Heritage path number one beginns in the estate of Ramsau. After the “Stötzlbrücke”, follow the signpost as far as the Sommerwaldstraße. From there, continue along the forest path away from the valley until you come to a fork in the road for the route 648, which now follows the forest path. The route branches off after half an hour.
Follow a lovely footpath for about an hour until you come back to the forest path before the Rossalm. Follow it until you reach the Schreieralm. There, you will reach the fork in the road leading to “Plassen” and “Hallstatt”. Follow path 645 as far as the watershed, where you will find an important fork.
You can now decide between taking the path to the Schiechlingalm and Hallstatt, or you can follow the path to the summit of the Plassen (path 643) which, due to its rockiness, requires surefootedness and fitness.
Incidentally, the Plassen is considered one of the most beautiful panoramic mountains. The Plassen conceals a huge salt deposit: this salt has been mined for over 7,000 years. Following a two-hour, relatively steep hike towards the valley, you reach the Rudolfs Tower on the Salt Mountain.
If you are already tired from your hike, then you can take the Salzberg railway down to Hallstatt.
The walking time for the twelf or 16-kilometre long trail from Gosau to Hallstatt takes six or eight hours.
